Instituições de Ensino:
OBJECTIVES AND STRUCTURE
The main objective of the Doctoral Program in Industrial Engineering and Management (PRODEGI) is to provide students with set of competencies, skills and research methods, along with the developmentof skills to conceive, design, adapt and produce an intensive research, having in mind quality, requirements and integrity standards inherent to the academic activity, so that they can develop innovative research work in the field of Industrial Engineering and Management.
More specifically, this doctoral program aims at providing the students with the necessary skills in order for them to:
- Develop new approach methods and techniques for decision-making processes, which answer to the present and the future needs of the organisations.
- Adapting existing methods and techniques of Industrial Engineering and Management to solve new problems in new organisational environments.
- Making comparative studies of methods or techniques of Industrial Engineering and Management, which allow measuring their impact on the organisations.
- The program comprises a doctoral course (no degree granted) corresponding to 60 ECTS that prepares students, methodologically and scientifically, for a scientific thesis, corresponding to 120 ECTS and that grants the degree.
The first two semesters include an annual mandatory course intended for the preparation and defence of the thesis theme and project, supervised by a teacher tutor that is assigned to the student when he/she is admitted into the programme. There are also 2 mandatory courses meant to provide the students with the basic competencies and skills necessary to develop research work. The remaining courses are optional and chosen by the student together with the tutor, aiming at complementing and deepening specific knowledge within the program’s area where the student will develop his/her research work and doctoral thesis. Students are encouraged to defend their thesis theme/project, which concludes the curricular part of the program, between 1 year and 1 and half years after enrolment. At that moment, the supervisor is formally assigned and the remaining 120 ECTS (2 years) are integrally spent with the research work that will lead to the thesis’ writing and defence.
The research strategy adopted by PRODEGI is clearly one of using theoretical study applied to real and challenging enterprise’s problems. The research results should be of the appropriate quality for publication in internationally refereed journals and for presentation in international research oriented conferences.
Desirably, the research projects will be associated with host institutions, namely industrial and service enterprises, to which the issues under research are considered important, in terms of innovation.
